Episode 513.1: PM Trend 2025 #1 - More AI at Your Fingertips

Play video episode

Project management tools will evolve in 2025, integrating AI more deeply to automate areas like resource allocation, risk analysis, or reporting. This shift means PMs can focus on strategy and leadership while repetitive tasks become increasingly automated.

What’s Driving This Trend

In 2024, we saw the first steps in embedding generative AI into project management software. Most tools allowed basic functions, like asking AI to write a project summary or suggest user stories. These features, while exciting, were limited in scope and left PMs still relying on standalone AI tools for more complex tasks.

In 2025, PM software providers will shift their focus toward more fully integrated AI functionality, with tools offering first forays into automated resource balancing, real-time risk alerts, and predictive project outcomes. This transition is significant because it means PMs can consolidate their workflows and spend less time using AI tools that are separate from PM tools. Ultimately, this leads to better project outcomes and more time for strategic decision-making.

What You Can Do to Get Ahead of the Trend

  • Explore and adopt PM software updates that incorporate AI-driven features beyond text generation.
  • Experiment with AI functionalities like resource allocation or timeline predictions on smaller projects.
  • Collaborate with your PMO to assess which PM tool's AI integrations align best with your project needs.
